“VETERANS OF THE 21 CENTURY”
DONATION DRAFT In 2002
my friend Mike Handy, former Director of Veterans Affairs for the City of
New York, approached me about starting the Southwest Asia Veterans
Association. I told him; I would talk to my veteran buddies from Desert
Storm to see if we had enough people committed to the idea to make it
work. Today, thanks to Elliot Goldman ESQ we have our 501/C3 charter, a
bank account with Chase Bank and office space at the mayor’s office
(thanks to Mike and the current deputy commissioner Ms. Clarice Joynes).
In May of 2003 Mr. Handy died of heart failure.
We would like to request your assistance in providing sponsorship, to
jump-start the Worlds first Internet driven veterans’ organization.
Our cause is to guarantee that everyone, who serves in the Middle East,
has a formal organized voice that represents solutions to the critical
problems facing service members in the war on terror and the demands of
constant deployments.
Initially the not for profit charter focused on returning reserve
veterans, but with the ever expanding Global War on Terror commitment, we
now realize that we have to broaden our scope. This has prompted us to
draft proposed amendments to our charter which include:
• Scholarships to service members and their families.
• Legal assistance donated by legal organizations as a community
service.
• Lending closets for frequently deployed reserve component soldiers who
cannot use the active duty support networks.
• Medical counseling, referral and information repository for the long
list of maladies facing soldiers serving in the Desert, who lose medical
benefits once their tour or deployment ends.
• Support and formal assistance for soldiers (Service Members) needing to be re-employed
after extended tours and who may be small business owners who have lost
their livelihood.
• Letter head for all those who have committed their lives in service to
this country, fighting in the Desert.
Your contribution would be the first of many
commitments we have requested and hope to get in the future. With your
commitment our goal of securing 1500 members by the end of 2010 will be
realized. Listed below is the proposed list of activities that this
funding would facilitate:
• Advertising and membership support from the
Association of the United States Army, $15000.00. These funds would
facilitate that the largest support organization of the four branches of
the military will place advertising in their publication, give us access
to membership mailings @ 200,000 and provide booth space at the AUSA
annual event in Washington DC.
• Administration of membership applications $16,000. This will properly
resource start-up operations for membership services which are critical
to sustaining all of the support services stipulated in our charter.
• Four-color print advertising with Gannett Publishing to stimulate
awareness with all five services branches, Army (Army Times) Navy (Navy
Times) Air Force (Air Force Times) Marine Corps (marine Corps Times) And
the Coast Guard publication. $15,000.00 (Gannett is the publisher of
these services news papers.)
• Accounting and legal services needed to facilitate reporting
requirements to state and federal agencies as per not for profit
guidelines.
As with all not for profit organizations our success in
the future will depend on, providing member services, dedicated support to
the veterans community, public knowledge of our goals, and as in your
possible commitment, generous donations.
Your assistance will be tremendous and on behalf of SWAV, I thank you.
